Required Reading - Fall 2011

One of my greatest pleasures in life, is reading a great book right before bed. Preferably, the sheets will be white and cripsy and there will be rain outside. The window will be open and there will be a lavender scented candle flickering nearby (but not near any curtains, of course).

I keep a big stack next to my bed, and when one is done, it's on to the next. Here's what's on my required list this Fall.

reading

1. The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath
2. Let the Great World Spin by Colum McCann
3. The Botany of Desire by Michael Pollan
4. Blood, Butter and Bones by Gabrielle Hamilton
5. I Was Told There'd Be Cake by Sloane Crosley

What's on your required reading list?

Sadly, it's really hard for me to keep up with reading for pleasure during school. My time is sucked up so much by reading textbooks and notes that by the time I'm done, I have little desire to look at another book haha! This is a great idea, maybe I should make a list like this and try to stick to it! I'll let you know what ends up on my fall reading list :)

Oh, we should be friends. If I could, I would spend all of my spare time in bed with a book :)

I read McCann's "Let the Great World Spin" this summer- I really enjoyed it & I'll be curious to see what you think of it. Also, loved "The Bell Jar"-- it's way weird but awesome.

I'm waiting for 5 new books I ordered to arrive on my door step any day now...

I love The Bell Jar. Good choice! After looking at your other suggestions, I definitely added a couple to my to-read list :)

I'll keep your list close by. It looks really refreshing, like all the things on your blog. I haven't still finished my summer "task" of reading Thomas Mann's Joseph and his brothers, a colossal work of nearly 2000 pages, worth reading, but a once in a life feat :-)

I want to read all of these! I've had that botany of desire on my book queue for awhile and keep forgetting about it!

I've been wanting to read the Bell Jar for years now. I'll check in once I do read it and maybe we can compare notes . . .
