The memory game, blocks and puzzles as told through the illustrations of Alexander Girard? Pinch me now. How great are these? Children learning through great design should be the standard. I'm not gonna lie though, I wouldn't mind a set of each for myself. Great gift for kids and adults alike:)

Guest Post: French General

Hello La Dulci Vida... I am Alexis from Fern & Feather. While Dulci is away I thought I would post a bit about my trip to France this summer with French General. Every year Kaari Meng from French General takes 14 women to the south of France to antique and craft. When I heard about this trip I knew that I would move mountains to be there and I am so glad I did, it was the most amazing trip of my life. Filled with amazingly dynamic woman, busting with creativity and overflowing with all things French.

The Chateau Dumas. We all stayed in the same beautiful Napoleonic Chateau. It is beautifully designed with a full staff and even a craft house.

The French market. One of the days we spent the morning wondering around the local market. It was filled with the most beautiful produce you have ever seen, there were even little baby pigs wondering around. It was magical.

Crafts. A few days we stayed at the Chateau and crafted. We made jewelry, fabric flowers and inspired eachother as every lady there was so full of creative energy.

The Brocantes. In the South of France there are several Brocantes {which is basically a flea market}. These fabulous places are over flowing with ‘French Junk’ I felt like a kid in a candy store every little trinket was calling my name. I remember walking out of one of the Brocantes and over heard a man who said “what did those ladies buy?” and the Brocante owner said “Just a bunch of trash." he he.

The end!

bay city rolling

DSCN4743

This is where I'll be the next few days. But in my absence, I've lined up some great guest posts from Fern & Feather and Happenstance (two of my fave reads). Happy reading!

Tripnotes: Chez Panisse, Berkley, CA

I realized that I never posted about my amazing experience at the legendary California institution, Chez Panisse, in my San Francisco Trip Notes. So, in the spirit of my upcoming trip (on Thursday!!!) to the city by the bay, I thought I'd share.

Located just a short ride from San Francisco, Chez Panisse is tucked away on a leafy street in Berkley, CA. Chez Panisse opened in 1971 with Alice Waters, queen of the slow food movement, at it's helm. And CP has been making culinary magic ever since. (p.s. check out this book for a great read and the true inside scoop)

The meal started with freshly baked bread and salted farm fresh butter. I would eat just this for the rest of my life. For realzies.

Love the etched water carafe. Simple and lovely.

Next, was time for some ruffage. A simply dressed salad of greens with breaded and baked goat cheese. KILL ME!!! This was the most delicate and decadent salad ever created. I licked the plate.

DSCN4736

Not fair how good this was.

Now, for the main event. Country fried rabbit with a pepper salad. ummmm....OK!

DSCN4738

And Halibut with spring peas and herb butter. I mean. Seriously?

DSCN4737

Next stop on this crazy train: An apricot crostata with some bomb freshly churned ice cream. Rustic and yet refined? DONE!

DSCN4739

The meal of a lifetime people! It was simple, rustic and above all...delish! If you find yourself in the Bay Area, you must make the journey to culinary Nirvana. You will find yourself on the steps of this humble Chez, posing with the menu, like it's a celebrity.

This photo essay was featured in the sunday times last weekend. As a New Yawker, the subway is a part of daily life and it's amazing to see it captured throughout time. These are some of my favorites, but check out more amazing photos here.
