Tripnotes: Saratoga, NY

Earlier this summer, I went upstate to visit my parents. My mama and I made sure to squeeze in a day at the races. Saratoga Springs, a short ride from Albany, is a historic place and a great way to spend a sunny afternoon. It originated as a spa retreat for the rich and congested in the 1860's and today is known as the gambling mecca of my world.

Parts of the race track are like taking a step back in time. Chico (mysteriously absent from this photo) will shine your shoes...all day apparently.

And after a hard days betting, make sure to check out local favorite since 1938, Hattie's Chicken Shack - a down-home bayou style restaurant with my favorite fried chicken.

I was too busy eating to take any photos of the food, so you'll have to just take my word. Hit the shack peeps. You won't be sorry.

Isn't this the best? It's a cafe in Finland with maybe...the...best...look...ever??? The black and white checks really get my goat. Kudos to the Finns! via remodelista.

black on black

This is the epitome of sophistication people. Black on black. Doesn't this wall look so skinny? (obvi black is the most slimming color on earf.) You already know I'm a sucker for stripes, but this apartment therapy post had me drooling on my keyboard. They painted the wall a matte black and then added the stripes with a transparent glaze. Brilliant.

I am in LOVE with the branding for Flour Pot bakery. It's adorable and refreshing. Doesn't it look tres French too? Via Sara Nicely.

eat your vegetables

New York Magazine did an article about the rise of vegetable cocktails and I am totally down with it, as long as I can get me some of that sweet thang up there. It's a Rhubarb Paloma and it'll set you back $11 at Poco. A fair price to pay for a serving of vegetables I think.
